Reiki has brought a spiritual element to my life that has opened the door to a variety of new experiences and I love it!
Reiki has allowed me to offer healing to family, friends and clients, as well as myself, and I learn something new with every person I work with. Each visitor can present with very different symptoms, which can range from mental illnesses such as anxiety, stress or depression to physical pain, such as back, foot problems or headaches. Some visitors have suffered with insomnia and others were having a tough time with relationships.
"How does Reiki deal with such a diverse set of problems?" I hear you ask. Well, Reiki treats the whole body, physically as well as on an emotional and spiritual level. Let me explain as simply as possible.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing for the mind, body and spirit. It is administered by "laying on/off hands" in certain positions which helps activate the body's natural ability to restore itself. Reiki healing reaches the deepest levels of a person's being bringing about spiritual, mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
For example, to keep our bodies healthy we have blood vessels that transport blood and oxygen throughout the body and if one of these get blocked or damaged we can become ill. On an energetic level the body has seven main Chakras (Wheels) which are responsible for the free flow of energy around the body and just as with blood vessels, Chakras can become blocked for many different reasons and symptoms can manifest physically or emotionally. Reiki works on an energetic and spiritual level and a Reiki Practitioner works to clear blockages by focusing on the body's Chakras, as well as different areas of the body. I usually end my sessions by balancing the Chakras.
When I work with Reiki, I experience an increase in energy through vibration and intense heat in the palms of my hands. This vibration gets stronger when I reach an area of the body that needs particular attention. Whoever I am working with usually mentions the immense heat they can feel from my hands, which usually signifies healing. On occasion, someone will tell me that my hands were hot on one part of the body but very cool on the next part, the cool sensation signifies a clearing of blockages.
Reiki seems to work exceptionally well with stress, anxiety and depression and I think this is helped by the overall experience. From the minute a person enters my therapy room, the whole ambiance is calm and relaxed; with oils burning, candlelight and beautiful music playing they are asked to lay on a therapy bed wrapped in a blanket (if they wish). This atmosphere promotes a safe, stress free and relaxed environment and they leave a Reiki session feeling much calmer and in control, with the healing continuing for some time after the session has ended. The feedback to date has been exceptional.
There is still much to learn about the benefits of Reiki. Currently research is being carried out at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Tooting. Click here to find out more: https://www.reikifed.co.uk/reiki-healing/connecting-reiki-with-medicine/
